2022 Uechi-ryu Karate WinterFest Update
Friday and Sabbatum's seminars will be conducted from 9AM – 3PM at the Eustis Service Center. Tiffin will be served at the facility from 12-1PM. Saturday, the Masters' Celebration will be conducted.
The Eustis Service Heart is tucked beside Sunset Island Park, which sits a large feast hall, overlooking an oak canopy that is sure to impress. This 3400 foursquare-foot hall has a full-service kitchen and a view of a lawn courtyard that will exist use for outdoor workouts, seminars and Kobudo. My Journey from Shodan to Nidan

On Monday I was awarded my Nidan. This was not something I had gear up my sights on when I returned to karate after a long absence. What I value well-nigh almost this promotion is that it has served to more than securely validate and honor my delivery to Uechi-Ryu Karate.
I first earned my Shodan in Sitka, Alaska when I was 17 years quondam. I then headed to college and, over the next few years, continued to practise on my own and dabble in other forms of martial arts. Just I was unable to sustain this over time and somewhen stopped. As the years went by, I oft idea nigh getting back into Uechi-Ryu Karate, merely I had no idea how to practise this without the back up of a community in Anchorage, Alaska where I lived.
A year agone, my sensei from Sitka, Duane Swanson, contacted me out of the blue. He encouraged me to attend Darin Yee's online workouts, and offered to exist my sensei once more. I enthusiastically agreed and began participating in all of Sensei Darin'southward online sessions, too as coming together with him and Sensei Duane via Zoom on weekends. After such a long absence from Uechi-Ryu, I struggled to recollect and perfect the moves, and to learn new approaches and variations. Only I persisted and practiced daily.
It is hard to express the immense gratitude and admiration I accept for Sensei Duane and Sensei Darin–their generosity, kindness, encouragement, guidance, and passion and expertise in the martial arts. I am proud to be a fellow member of the Sitka Alaska Uechi-Ryu Guild and the IUKF. If there is ane shining lite I located in the pandemic, information technology is my journey back into karate and the Uechi-Ryu community.

Okinawan Uechi-ryu Karate – At Home!

The COVID-19 pandemic and the reduction in dojo time has given me the opportunity to research more of what is presented via social media outlets, many uploaded videos and blogs showing Kata's and bunkai based effectually the presenters own agreement or interpretation, what I believe I accept witnessed is a number of very well performed kata and bunkai that exit me feeling something is missing.

Unsoku – A foot movement exercise that tin be used equally a warm up or as training tool for Tai Sabaki

Good avoidance (Tai Sabaki) is oftentimes discussed at seminars and in the dojo, withal when we go to training our 2 person kumite drills this all seems to go out of the window and we are dorsum using linear movements, not to mention the lack of centre and right Maai. Unsoku ( foot movements) is an excellent way to start to develop a better understanding of tai sabaki (Total body avoidance).

Lee Adams Appointed Chairman BAA
From October 2020 I will be assuming the role of Chairman of the British Aikido Association, The BAA was established in 1966, one yr before the Nihon Aikido Clan so is recognised as the oldest official Aikido clan in the globe, although primarily supporting Tomiki Aikido the BAA today is the Association of pick for many Non Tomiki Aikido Clubs and has recently opened its affiliate membership to other Aikido Styles and other Martial Arts.
Professor Kenjo Tomiki skills and dedication to grooming were such that, subsequently being the captain of the Judo Team at Waseda Academy in Tokyo, he became an uchi-deshi (live-in student) of Jigoro Kano, the founder of Judo. It was through his association with Kano that Tomiki Sensei came to be acquainted with Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido. Already holding an 8th Dan in Judo, O' Sensei awarded Kenji Tomiki a Menkyo ( roughly equivalent to 8th Dan) and as such is recorded and Aikido'south first always 8th Dan.
Kenji Tomiki's style of Aikido is a style that strives to combine the competitive excitement of Judo with the spiritual serenity of traditional Aikido.
I am honoured to be asked to represent Tomiki Aikido on the earth phase equally I am to represent the IUKF and Uechi Ryu here in the Great britain, I believe that the two have much commonality and will continue to dissect, analyse and experiment with both for self-improvement and enlightenment.

On Nov 9, 2019, Darin Yee-Sensei travelled 5,046 miles from Boston to Hawaii to share his all-encompassing knowledge of Uechi-ryu, to offer his continued support of our Dojo, and to spend his valuable time with us. From the multiple meetings and training sessions throughout the week, nosotros gained much insight into the Tiger, Dragon, Crane roots of our art. Nosotros are and so grateful to have been shown a new perspective from which to dissect, clarify, and maximize our effectiveness in Kata functioning and applications. I'm particularly impressed with the humble manner in which Darin-Sensei interacted with our group. From the youngest fellow member, to the oldest member, he showed patience, kindness, and agreement in freely sharing his knowledge.
Sensei Yee, cheers for your on-going efforts in building a highly supportive International Uechi-ryu Karate Federation, and peculiarly for travelling then far beyond the globe to help united states get better Karateka! Mahalo nui loa for embodying the Spirit of Aloha! We are proud to exist an IUKF affiliated Dojo and look forward to your side by side visit on January 11th and 12th 2020 for our Honolulu Uechi-ryu Gasshuku Regional Workout.

3 Karate principles taught by the legendary Yoshimi Inoue
My name is Jacob Bartoletti, I am a martial artist from Sweden but I live and teach karate and martial arts in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Having had the opportunity of existence a shut disciple of the legendary Yoshimi Inoue I would hereby similar to contribute to the Karate customs with some of Primary Inoue's ideas and teachings.
Soke Yoshimi Inoue passed abroad in 2015. He was famous for non but teaching some of the best karatekas of modernistic karate in the globe (World Champions such every bit: Antonion Diaz, Mie Nakayama, Ryoki Abe, Rika Usami).
Soke Inoue has also received a lot of attention for being a swell contributor to the mod karate by connecting some of the rather traditional karate principles to the modern contest karate.

The purpose of this article is to share some of Master Inoue's teachings and ideas to the karate community. The ideas and principles taught past Inoue may be practical in both traditional martial arts as well as for the purpose of training for modern competitions.
Soke Inoue himself used to refer to traditional karate and modern karate as two quite different types of training (but that still take many things in common).
Many of the principles, adept and used in old days take been forgotten or but are not emphasized in modern budo. Inoue thought this was a bad way of development.
He meant that many (non all simply many) old principles could exist used even in modern karate to fill information technology's purpose of developing skills that would typically be rewarded in mod karate competitions.

IUKF President visits Knoxville
Recently 9th degree and newly appointed president of the IUKF, Darin Yee, paid a visit to our school in Knoxville, TN. Information technology is a privilege to be able to learn from Master Yee's vast knowledge from non only Uechi-ryu just also his many other martial arts styles.
These influences are easily seen, particularly Wushu and Fly Chun, when exploring the soft side of Uechi-ryu. Even though most original styles of karate advocate being both a hard and soft style, through the years of development of karate, many styles take the lost the soft side.
